GRIZZLIES SUCCUMB TO EARLY RASCALS ONSLAUGHT

O'FALLON, Mo. — The Gateway Grizzlies allowed eight runs in the first two innings Thursday night and never recovered in a 9-4 loss to the River City Rascals at CarShield Field.

Gateway (36-51) lost back-to-back games to finish the season series in a tie, 6-6, over 12 meetings with the Rascals (46-41).

Audie Afenir went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, a walk and a run scored.

Justin Ellison and Blake Brown were both 1-for-3 with a walk and run scored each. Brown added a double.

Joe Hauser (0-1) took his first loss with the Grizzlies. He allowed eight runs (all earned) over seven innings and struck out two.

Gateway will finish its eight-game road trip with a three-game series over the weekend against the Florence Freedom at UC Health Stadium. First pitch Friday is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. CDT. Mike Elwood is the Grizzlies' probables starter.
