GRIZZLIES RELINQUISH LEAD, FALL TO RASCALS

O'FALLON, Mo. — The Gateway Grizzlies led following the fifth inning, but allowed four runs in the sixth inning Wednesday night en route to a 7-5 loss to the River City Rascals at CarShield Field.

Gateway (36-50) scored a run in the seventh inning, but went down in order over the final two frames to lose.

River City (44-41) remained a half-game behind the Normal CornBelters for first place in the West Division.

Trae Santos had two extra-base hits — an RBI double and his first triple of the season — to pace the Grizzlies' attack. He added a walk and a run. Audie Afenir had an RBI double and a walk. Cody Livesay chipped in with two singles and a run.

Max MacNabb (8-8) allowed seven runs (six earned) over six innings and took the loss. He struck out two, walked two and gave up four home runs.

Colton Freeman, Chris Metrick and Patrick Boyle combined to toss two scoreless innings out of the Grizzlies' bullpen and struck out three, but the damage was done.

Gateway and River City will complete their two-game set and 12-game season series Thursday at 6:35 p.m.
