MACNABB'S STRONG START NOT ENOUGH IN LOSS

SAUGET, Ill. — Max MacNabb pitched seven innings and allowed only three runs, but his quality start was wasted in a 6-0 Gateway Grizzlies loss to the Traverse City Beach Bums on Friday night at GCS Credit Union Ballpark.

MacNabb (6-6) struck out six batters to take his season total to 77, which ranks second in the Frontier League.

Gateway (25-35) notched only five hits — all singles. Paul Russo and Trae Santos had two apiece; Shane Mardirosian had one.

Traverse City (29-28) has won three of four games against the Grizzlies this season. Starting pitcher Reinaldo Lopez (6-3) tossed a complete-game shutout — his third of the season (all since June 10) and his second against the Grizzlies in the last two weeks.

Gateway and Traverse City will play game two of their three-game set and the Grizzlies' six-game homestand Saturday at 7:05 p.m.
