GATEWAY DROPS MIDDLE GAME TO NORMAL

SAUGET, Ill. — Normal CornBelters infielder Santiago Chirino knocked a single through the right side of the infield in the sixth inning Saturday night for his 636th career hit, a new Frontier League record, and Normal topped the Gateway Grizzlies, 14-5, at GCS Credit Union Ballpark.

Gateway (17-22) had its three-game winning streak snapped. Taso Stathopoulos (0-1) took the loss.

Normal (15-20) scored four times in the first inning and never trailed.

Artemis Kadkhodaian homered for the second straight night — this time, a three-run shot in the fifth inning as part of a 2-for-3 performance.

Brent Sakurai, Jhonniel Alvarez and Cody Livesay all had multi-hit games for the Grizzlies.

Gateway and Normal will close out their three-game series with a rubber match Sunday at GCS Credit Union Ballpark. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
