MACNABB SHINES IN SHUTOUT GATEWAY WIN

SAUGET, Ill. — Max MacNabb tossed six scoreless innings, and the Gateway Grizzlies picked up their second shutout win of the season in a 2-0 triumph over the Florence Freedom on Sunday night at GCS Credit Union Ballpark.

Gateway (12-15) snapped a four-game losing streak; Florence (11-15) posted only two hits.

The Grizzlies took advantage of three Freedom errors in the third inning — including two committed by right fielder Connor Crane on the same play — to score three unearned runs. Gateway first baseman Trae Santos added a solo home run in the fifth. It was his sixth of the season and fifth in the Grizzlies' last 12 games.

Patrick Boyle, Colton Freeman and Josh Glick all threw scoreless innings out of the bullpen. The 'pen has allowed only one run in 11 innings of work Saturday and Sunday.

Gateway and Florence close out their four-game series Monday at 7:05 p.m. at GCS Credit Union Ballpark. Mike Elwood (1-1, 4.03) will toe the rubber for the Grizzlies against Steve Hagen (3-1, 2.40) on the mound for the Freedom.
