Bio

Thomas Nicoll enters his first season with the Grizzlies and his second in professional baseball in 2019.

Nicoll, who turned 23 on May 24, pitched tremendously well out of the Normal CornBelters’ bullpen last season after finishing his senior season at Florida A&M. Nicoll made 19 appearances (all in relief) for the ‘Belters and finished the season 2-1 with a 2.15 ERA. He struck out 31 and walked only four over 29 1/3 innings with a 0.85 WHIP.

At FAMU, he enjoyed significant success out of the ‘pen as a junior in 2017. He 41 2/3 innings spread over 24 relief appearances en route to a 3.24 ERA for the Rattlers.

He pitched in the Valley League (a summer collegiate circuit in the Mid-Atlantic) in the summer of 2017, the same year now-Grizzlies teammate Brent Sakurai was there, but Nicoll pitched only once for his Strasburg Express against Sakurai’s Waynesboro Generals, and Sakurai took a rare game off that day so the two did not directly face one another. Nicoll posted a 1.92 ERA that summer and Sakurai hit over .300.

Nicoll also started his collegiate career in his native Tallahassee, pitching the 2015 season at Tallahassee Community College.
