GRIZZLIES FORFEIT TWO MAY GAMES

SAUGET, Ill. — The Gateway Grizzlies announced Sunday morning that they self-reported illegal rosters used in May to the Frontier League and, as a result, the league office has determined the Grizzlies will forfeit two games that were previously wins.

Gateway mistakenly used rosters with 13 players under the Experienced classification in wins over Joliet on May 15 and River City on May 18. Multiple Grizzlies players were unknowingly listed under erroneous classifications. Frontier League rules allow for only 12 Experienced players on a team's 24-man roster.

"We understand the Frontier League office's decision, accept their judgment, and take full responsibility for our actions," Grizzlies general manager Steve Gomric said. "We apologize to the other teams in the league and regret that this error has had an impact on the playoff race. Hopefully, the games in question do not ultimately determine a playoff spot."

Gateway's updated record has been altered from 32-44 to 30-46.

"This was a mistake by our baseball operations department, of which I am in charge," Grizzlies manager Phil Warren said. "This was not the fault of our players or the Frontier League office. I'm extremely disappointed this happened and I apologize to all those affected. We have implemented procedures to prevent this from happening again."

Joliet and River City's records will both improve by one game. All other statistics accumulated during both games will remain the same, including the final scores and all individual statistics.
