Bio

Lucas Lanphere enters his first season with the Grizzlies and sixth as a professional in 2019.

Lanphere, 23, was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 21st round of the 2013 MLB Draft out of Citrus Valley High School in Redlands, Calif. Lanphere pitched five seasons in the Rangers’ system: two full seasons for the Rookie-level Arizona League Rangers (2013-2014), then parts of two seasons each with the Short Season-A Spokane (Wash.) Indians (2015-2016) and Class-A Hickory (N.C.) Crawdads (2016-2017).

He missed the 2018 season with an injury that required Tommy John surgery, which he had last April.

Between the Arizona League and Spokane, Lanphere’s ERA was never higher than 3.50. He also threw six strong starts to close out the 2016 season with Hickory, where he finished 2-2 with a 3.78 ERA and 31 strikeouts (against only six walks) over 33 innings. For his affiliated career, Lanphere allowed only 18 home runs in 228 1/3 innings (0.7 HR/9).
