ELLISON, MARDIROSIAN HOMER IN 9-3 LOSS

NORMAL, Ill. — The Gateway Grizzlies scored first Wednesday night on a Blake Brown RBI double, but Gateway fell behind shortly thereafter and never regained the lead in a 9-3 loss to the Normal CornBelters at The Corn Crib.

Gateway (33-43) lost its second straight, and is 0-5 in Normal this season.

Brown was 2-for-4 with a double, continuing the Bloomington-Normal native's career-long trend of hitting well in his hometown.

Justin Ellison and Shane Mardirosian both had solo homers to account for the Grizzlies' other two runs.

Normal (39-32) won its sixth straight game.

Chris Metrick threw two scoreless innings of relief with three strikeouts. Mason Klotz (4-4) had to leave the game in the second inning with an apparent injury and took the loss.

Gateway and Normal will complete their three-game series Thursday at 7:05 p.m.
