MOLESKY HURLS COMPLETE GAME SHUTOUT

SAUGET, Ill. – The Gateway Grizzlies defeated the Normal CornBelters behind strong pitching and timely hitting Friday night at GCS Credit Union Ballpark. FINAL SCORE: Gateway 6, Normal 0.

Gateway starter Vince Molesky set the tone for the game by retiring the side in order in the top of the first.

The Grizzlies' offense started an early rally. Cody Livesay and Joel McKeithan picked up RBI hits in the bottom of the first. Gateway took an early 2-0 lead.

Molesky kept Normal off of the scoreboard through the next four innings before Gateway's offense went back to work. A costly error by Normal catcher Brian Hakes allowed Gateway to score three more times to extend the lead to 5-0 in the bottom of the fifth.

Chase Simmons added more insurance in the sixth with a two-out solo home run to right to extend the lead to six.

Molesky continued his dominance over Normal through the rest of the game, earning a complete-game shutout. Molesky improved his season record to 6-7. He gave up just five hits and struck out nine.

Gateway will resume action Saturday night as they face Normal in the second game of the three-game series at GCS Credit Union Ballpark. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. All the action can be heard on the Grizzlies Media Network.
