GRIZZLIES LOSE HEARTBREAKER AFTER LATE RIVER CITY RALLY

SAUGET, Ill. – A six-run ninth inning for River City took all of the momentum away from Gateway on Thursday night at GCS Credit Union Ballpark. FINAL: Grizzlies 4, River City 8.

River City took an early one-run lead. Paul Kronenfeld was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring in Mike Jurgella in the second inning.


The Grizzlies answered quickly in the bottom half of the second. Evan Rogers smashed his fourth home run of the season, a two-run shot over the left field wall. Blake Brown knocked in a run with a two-out single to extend the Gateway lead to two.

After three scoreless innings, Gateway made its way back on the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth. Evan Rogers picked up his third RBI of the night with a two-out single up the middle.

River City got one back in the top of the eighth. Morales hit his second home run of the series and fifth home run of the season to cut the deficit to two.

After a scoreless home half of the eighth, River City's offense found life. The Rascals picked up six runs on four hits to take a late four-run lead.

Blake Brown picked up his third hit and second RBI of the game with two outs in the ninth to bring Gateway back within three. However, the Grizzlies could not build on the momentum and fell to River City by a final score of 8-4.

Ja'Vaun West picked up the no decision. Through eight innings of work, West gave up two runs on six hits. He walked four and struck out eight. It was his second straight quality start.

Evan Rogers picked up his fourth home run of the season on his way to a three-RBI night.
