Former Grizzlie Trevor Richards Gets the Win Against Washington Nationals

SAUGET, IL - After being reassigned to minor league camp on March 9, Trevor Richards returned to the big-league dugout March 19 with the Miami Marlins for his first start. The former Gateway Grizzlie had an impressive outing, taking home the win (1-0). He outpitched Max Scherzer, the 2016 and 2017 National League Cy Young Award winner, who took the loss on the mound.

Richards pitched four innings allowing only one earned run with four hits and two walks. He struck out three batters, including two in his first big league inning.

Once an undrafted signee, Richards garnered praise as Minor League Pitcher of the Year in 2017 for the Miami Marlins organization. He had 25 starts last season with 146 innings pitched, striking out 158 while allowing only 30 walks.

The Grizzlies will have a Trevor Richards bobblehead giveaway on Friday, July 20. That night the Grizzlies take on their cross-town rival River City Rascals at GCS Credit Union Ballpark in Sauget, IL.
