ANDERSON'S QUALITY START NOT ENOUGH IN LOSS

FLORENCE, Ky. — The Gateway Grizzlies (24-55) struggled to get on track offensively in a 6-2 loss to the Florence Freedom (51-28) Sunday evening, dropping their fourth straight game.

Gateway's offense provided plenty of hits over the weekend series — 25 total over three games — but translated them to only three runs.

Jack Hranec's two-run homer in the seventh inning provided the Grizzlies' only scoring Sunday. It was Hranec's fourth big fly of the season.

Matt Hearn went 4-for-5, finishing off an 8-out-of-12 series.

Will Anderson (2-12) took the hard-luck loss, despite allowing only three earned runs over six innings — his fourth quality start of the season. Anderson struck out five and walked only two.

After Monday's off day, Gateway returns Tuesday night to play the River City Rascals in the first of a two-game set at CarShield Field in O'Fallon, Missouri. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. on the Grizzlies Media Network.
