GRIZZLIES OFFENSE STRUGGLES, WILD THINGS TAKE GAME TWO

SAUGET, Ill. – The Gateway Grizzlies surrendered a pivotal three-run home run in the fourth inning and could not produce enough offense as the Washington Wild Things won the second of three games Saturday night at GCS Credit Union Ballpark. FINAL SCORE: Washington: 6, Gateway: 1

  Gateway starter Ja'Vaun West allowed a solo home run in the first, but Gateway responded in its half of the first with a solo home run by third baseman Joel McKeithan. McKeithan has four home runs and 17 RBIs through 24 games with Gateway this season.

The game remained tied at one until the fourth. West allowed the first two runners to reach, and allowed a three-run home run by Washington right fielder Hector Roa to give the Wild Things a 4-1 lead.

Washington added two insurance runs in the seventh on Roa's second home run of the game to extend the lead to five. Gateway was shut out between the second and ninth innings on Saturday night.

West suffered the loss to bring his season record down to 2-7. He allowed eight hits, six runs (all earned) and struck out seven over 6 2/3 innings of work.

 

Gateway will resume action in the series finale Sunday night at GCS Credit Union Ballpark. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m. All the action can be heard on the Grizzlies Media Network.
