GATEWAY BATS QUIET IN SERIES OPENER

SAUGET, Ill. – The Gateway Grizzlies' offense was limited to only two runs, and the Washington Wild Things won the first of three games Friday night at GCS Credit Union Ballpark by a final score of 10-2.

Gateway got the scoring started in the first with a bases loaded walk and an RBI groundout to take a 2-0 lead.

  Gateway starter Will Anderson retired seven of the first eight batters he faced before surrendering a one-out, two-run home run to Washington center fielder James Harris to tie the game.
 

Washington took the lead in the fourth. Right fielder Hector Roa was hit by a pitch and scored on a double to left by third baseman Mike Hill.

 

The game began to unfold for Gateway in the fifth. Third baseman Joel McKeithan committed a costly two-out error allowing two more runs to score to extend Washington's lead to 5-2.

 

Washington added five more runs with the help of two two-run home runs in the final three innings of the ballgame. FINAL: Grizzlies 2, Washington 10.

 
Anderson suffered the loss to bring his season record down to 2-9. He allowed five hits, six runs (four earned) and four walks.
 

Gateway will be back in action Saturday night in the second of three games against Washington. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. All the action can be heard on the Grizzlies Media Network.
