ANDERSON POSTS QUALITY START, BUT GRIZZLIES FALL
SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — Despite putting five runners on base in the final three innings, the Gateway Grizzlies (18-42) were unable to push a run across Saturday night in their 2-0 loss to the Schaumburg Boomers (39-19).
Gateway left the bases loaded in the top of the eighth inning, the only time the Grizzlies had multiple runners on base at the same time. They stranded seven total runners for the evening.
Will Anderson (2-8) pitched well in his 12th start of the year, allowing only two runs over seven innings. He took the hard-luck loss.
Anderson's effort was the Grizzlies' fourth quality start through five games on their current road trip. They're 1-3 in those games.
Matt Hearn went 0-4 to end his hitting streak at 20 games. His streak finishes as the second-longest in the Frontier League this season, and only three games short of Gateway's franchise record. He hit a couple of hard fly balls, but they both found gloves in Schaumburg's outfield.
Blake Brown added a double, Gateway's only extra-base hit. Jackson Sigman threw a scoreless eighth inning in relief of Anderson.
Next, Gateway will continue against Schaumburg in the finale of a three-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Sunday. All of the action can be heard on the Grizzlies Media Network.
