LEES WALKS IT OFF, GRIZZLIES WIN FIFTH STRAIGHT

SAUGET, Ill. – Gateway catcher Brian Lees shined at the plate, picking up two RBIs as the Grizzlies won their fifth straight game on Friday night at GCS Credit Union Ballpark

  Joel McKeithan gave the Grizzlies their first lead of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Gateway trailing by one, McKeithan hit a two-out three-run double. The Grizzlies led 3-1 going into the fifth inning.
 
Dan Holst hit a two-out RBI double in the home half of the fifth inning to pad Gateway's lead.
 
Evansville went scoreless between the fourth and seventh innings, but answered quickly in the eighth. Jeff Gardner broke the scoreless streak with an RBI double in the top of the eighth to bring the Otters within two. Then with runners on second and third, a costly error by Joel McKeithan allowed two runs to score. Evansville completed the comeback and tied the game in the top of the eighth.
 

Brian Lees picked up a clutch RBI double in the bottom half of the eighth to give Gateway a one run lead heading into the ninth.

 
Evansville did not quit. Chris Sweeney hit a two-out RBI double down the left field line to tie the game once again. The score sat a 5-5 going into extra innings.
 

After three straight scoreless frames, Gateway finally put the nail in the coffin. Brian Lees hit a long single to left field, allowing Brent Sakurai to score the game-winning run. FINAL: Grizzlies 6, Evansville 5.

 

Tanner Cable picked up the victory, pushing his record to 2-3 for the season. Brian Lees finished with two hits and two RBIs.

 

Gateway will look to extend their five-game winning streak tomorrow in game two against Evansville. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. You can catch all of the action on the Grizzlies Media Network.
