GRIZZLIES DROP SERIES OPENER AT RIVER CITY

O'FALLON, Mo. — The Gateway Grizzlies (11-34) fell behind 5-0 in the early innings and couldn't come back en route to an 8-2 loss to the River City Rascals (21-23) on Friday night.

Blake Brown had two of Gateway's six hits and his 35th RBI. Terry McClure has the other RBI on a safety squeeze bunt that scored Matt Hearn in the fifth inning.

Gateway closed to within 5-2 in the fifth, but never got any closer.

River City racked up 13 hits, including three home runs.

Ja'Vaun West (1-5) took the loss for the Grizzlies, allowing five runs (all earned) on eight hits over five innings. He struck out six and walked one.

Kyle Uhrich threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings of relief with two strikeouts.

Next up, the Grizzlies take on River City again in O'Fallon tomorrow night at 6:35 p.m. Coverage starts at 6:20 p.m. on the Grizzlies Media Network.
