CRAIG SHINES, BUT GRIZZLIES FALL TO WINDY CITY IN EXTRAS

SAUGET, Ill. — Grizzlies starter Dylan Craig threw his best game of the season, but the offense could not come through late and the Grizzlies dropped the first game of their seven-game home stand by a final score of 3-2.

The scoring started in the bottom of the second inning when Chase Simmons laced an RBI single through the right side of the infield to bring in Terry McClure. Gateway took a one-run lead, and held that lead through most of the ballgame.

After five scoreless innings, Windy City finally got to Grizzlies hurler Dylan Craig in the top of the sixth. With one out and nobody on base, Andrew Dundon skied a solo home run over the left field wall to tie the game up at one run apiece.

After some impressive pitching on both sides, the game eventually rolled into extra innings. The Grizzlies had a chance to end the game in the bottom of the 10th inning with the bases loaded and just one out. After intentional walks were issued to Rogers and Brown, Grizzlies first baseman Craig Massoni stepped up to the plate. Massoni fought throughout the at-bat, but struck out swinging. Terry McClure followed suit with two outs and the Grizzlies came away with no runs.

Windy City then added two runs in the top of the 11th with the help of a sacrifice fly by Blair Beck and then a two-out RBI single by Larry Balkwill.

Gateway added one in the bottom of the inning from a sacrifice fly by Anthony Caronia, but could not produce a game-tying run. FINAL: Windy City 3, Grizzlies 2.

Dylan Craig picked up the no decision, pitching through seven innings and giving up just one run on five hits. He struck out four and walked three.

Craig did not record a strikeout through the first five innings. From the sixth inning on, Gateway's pitching staff combined for twelve strikeouts.

The Grizzlies will begin a three-game series against the Schaumburg Boomers, beginning on Tuesday, June 13th. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. You can catch all of the action on the Grizzlies Media Network.
