McCLURE HOMERS, BUT GATEWAY FALLS

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. — The Gateway Grizzlies (6-18) tied the game in the fourth inning on Terry McClure's second homer of the year, but didn't get enough offense in the later innings and fell 6-4 to the Traverse City Beach Bums (12-12).

McClure's home run — a three-run shot down the right-field line — tied the game at three apiece after Traverse City's Arby Fields had launched a three-run homer of his own in the third inning.

The Beach Bums added three more runs in the fifth inning, and Gateway was only able to muster one run in the seventh when Garrett Mattlage scored on Evan Rogers' RBI double.

The Grizzlies' four hits Thursday night all went for extra bases — Craig Massoni and Anthony Caronia both doubled, in addition to Rogers' two-bagger and McClure's big fly.

Massoni reached base all four times he came to the plate, adding three walks to his second-inning double.

Will Landsheft (1-2) took the loss for the Grizzlies. He conceded six runs (all earned) on five hits in six innings of work, striking out six and walking three.

Chad Gendron and Tanner Cable threw a scoreless inning each out of the bullpen.

Gateway will finish its six-game road trip with three games at Lake Erie over the weekend. Friday night's contest is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. CDT. Fans can hear all the action on the Grizzlies Media Network.
