GRIZZLIES' BATS QUIET AGAIN IN LOSS

CRESTWOOD, Ill. — The Gateway Grizzlies' (3-11) bats struggled again Saturday night in a 6-1 loss to the Windy City Thunderbolts (9-5) at Standard Bank Stadium in Crestwood, Illinois.

The Grizzlies loaded the bases in the first inning with only one out, but Terry McClure bounced into a 1-2-3 double play to end the threat.

Windy City seized the opportunity, scoring three times in the bottom of the first and once more in the second to take a commanding 4-0 lead. The Thunderbolts added two more runs in the seventh.

Gateway's only run came in the top of the ninth when Matt Hearn singled, moved to second on a wild pitch and to third on a flyout before Blake Brown drove him in with a single.

Over 18 offensive innings so far in the series, Gateway has only one run on eight hits and five walks.

On the mound, Grizzlies starter Will Landsheft (0-1) threw five innings, over which he surrendered four runs (all earned) on six hits. He struck out two and walked two.

Mike Elwood and Kaleb Earls combined to throw two scoreless innings of relief, allowing a combined three hits with two strikeouts and one walk.

Offensively, for the second straight night, Brown and Hearn were the only two Grizzlies to reach base twice. McClure managed one hit for the second game in a row to extend his team-long hitting streak to nine games.

Next up, the Grizzlies finish their three-game series with Windy City. First pitch is scheduled for 2:05 p.m. Sunday and can be heard on the Grizzlies Media Network.
