GRIZZLIES FIGHT BACK, FALL ON WALK-OFF

EVANSVILLE, Ind. — The Gateway Grizzlies (1-7) battled back valiantly Saturday night, but dropped their second straight to the Evansville Otters (5-3) on a walk-off homer, 9-7.

Gateway scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning to tie the game at seven runs apiece, but went down in order in the ninth before Evansville's Josh Allen launched his second homer of the game to walk it off.

The Otters hit four home runs in the ballgame. Allen, last year's Frontier League MVP, had an earlier three-run blast in the third inning.

Gateway scored first on an Evan Rogers RBI double in the first inning, driving home Cody Livesay. Rogers had two hits; Livesay was 2-3 with two walks, two steals, and two runs.

Evansville got a solo homer from Jeff Gardner in the second to tie the game back up at one.

In the top of the third, the Grizzlies appeared to seize control with a three-run frame — highlighted by a Sam Fischer two-run double — that gave them a 4-1 lead, but Evansville answered with five runs in the home half of the third to take the lead right back.

Gateway falls to 1-4 through five of six games on this road trip.

Up next, the Grizzlies battle Evansville tomorrow in the finale of a three-game series against the Otters. First pitch tomorrow is scheduled for 5:05 p.m. and fans can hear the game on the Grizzlies Media Network.

Gateway then returns home for a three-game series starting Tuesday against Lake Erie at GCS Credit Union Ballpark.
