GRIZZLIES HIRE GATTER AND WEBER TO RUN THE GRIZZLIES MEDIA NETWORK
The Gateway Grizzlies are proud to announce the hiring of two local products, Nate Gatter and T.J. Weber.
Nate Gatter, 20, will serve as the club's play-by-play broadcaster. Weber, 22, will serve as the media relations and broadcasting director and will also serve as the number two broadcaster for the organization.
Gatter is currently a junior at the University of Missouri, where he has put together a very impressive resume. In addition to calling Missouri Tiger football, basketball, baseball, and soccer games on 88.1 KCOU, Gatter has also added a lot of experience away from the university. He spent three seasons as a play-by-play broadcaster in summer collegiate baseball, including the Wisconsin Woodchucks of the Northwoods League in 2016 and the Orleans Firebirds of the Cape Cod Baseball League in 2015. Additionally, Gatter calls football and men's basketball for Lincoln University (NCAA Division II) in Jefferson City.
"I'm thrilled to be joining the Grizzlies' broadcast team," Gatter said. "As a St. Louis area native, I understand the Grizzlies' tradition of broadcasting excellence and look forward to protecting, and adding to, the outstanding legacy left by Grizzlies voices of the past."
Gatter has gained experience while also working behind the scenes in the sports media industry in addition to his on-air work. He served as the assistant sports director for 88.1 KCOU, where he was in charge of helping to develop the skills of young broadcasters. Gatter has also worked for Mizzou's student newspaper, the Maneater, where his work was well received. He won National Story of the Year in the Opinion/Editorial category from the Associated Collegiate Press and also took home the award for Best Sports Column from the Missouri College Media Association.
Gatter brings a lot of talent, experience, and determination to the broadcast booth. The Grizzlies organization is very excited to have Nate calling the 2017 season and beyond.
Weber is a 2016 graduate of Lindenwood University. He brings a lot of local experience to the Grizzlies' front office and broadcast booth.
"I could not be more excited to be a part of this great organization," Weber said. "My goal is to bring great team coverage and new, exciting content to the loyal Grizzlie fans all season long. I will continue to help grow an already successful organization."
In addition to his position with the Grizzlies, Weber also handles play-by-play duties for the SIUE (Southern Illinois University Edwardsville) Cougars' women's basketball team and fills in on men's basketball broadcasts.
Weber's broadcasting experience dates back to his college years spent calling high school football, basketball, and baseball games in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and Columbia, Illinois. After arriving at Lindenwood in 2014, he became the play-by-play broadcaster for the Lions' NCAA Division II football team. He also served as the color commentator for the men's basketball team.
As a Columbia, Illinois, native, Weber brings more local flavor to Grizzlies broadcasts, which have previously featured St. Louis area products Aaron Goldsmith (Seattle Mariners and Pac-12 Network) and Adam Young (New Mexico State University). Young and Sam Levitt, the "Voice of the Grizzlies" for the last two seasons, both also held Weber's current position at SIUE.
